The Hydro Geographic Information
System
The integration of imagery and
other GIS data and combined with other hydrological models and
presentations provides the hydrologist/environmentalist with a very
powerful analytical tool.
As
shown in the below figure, JAYA Corporation integrates
aerial/satellite imagery with other georeferenced data such as
existing feature data and field collected data and digital elevation
data. JAYA will process
past and present imagery to delineate and identify features.
Thermography is an excellent image source for hydrological
analysis, especially for spring and swell identification.
Processed IR imagery can be used to identify potential
lineaments. Based on the
analysts’ requirements, georeferenced data such as digital
elevation, soil layers/profiles and linear features (e.g. roads) will
be processed and included. If
included, digital elevation data will be used to create 3D visualization and hydrological modeling.
Georeferenced field data collected by engineers/scientists will
be entered into the system. Customized
software programs and macros will be developed to facilitate entry of
the field data. Once
developed, the Hydro GIS will provide the engineers/scientists the
unique capability to perform analyses and visualizations.
Depending on the data contained in the Hydro GIS analyses such
as well siting and monitoring, flood prediction, groundwater
protection and zoning/planning can be performed and reports generated.
